Custom pools · Hilton Head Island & Bluffton, South Carolina

Every option and every cost, before you sign anything.

Kevin Camp built over a hundred pools for the largest builder on this island before his own name was on one. He started Camp Pool Builders so the man who designs your pool is the man who supervises it, start to finish.

Fifteen years before his name

Kevin Camp built more than a hundred pools for Aqua Blue Pools here on the island. Nix Construction hired him in 2007, and general contracting taught him the half of the job most pool salesmen never learn: estimating, scheduling, running a site, planning a build before a machine touches the ground.

Then he hit two walls

Aqua Blue brought him back in 2011 to rebuild their Hilton Head market, and he did it. He also kept running into the same two things: good families turned away because the book was full, and other families fitted with a pool that was not the right pool for them.

  • A geometric pool set in a travertine terrace

All he builds.

Two ways to build, so nobody gets fitted to the wrong pool.

Every property on this coast is different: the water table, the access, the trees, the setback. The build is chosen to suit it.

The work.

Named streets, not stock photography.

Nine addresses in communities a Lowcountry buyer already knows. Every builder on this island has a gallery. Almost none of them can tell you the street.

Fiberglass or shotcrete.

The right pool is a question of your ground and your budget, not our brochure.

01

Tailored shotcrete 6 to 8 weeks

4000 PSI shotcrete, blasted into place and then cut and finished by hand to your specification. Any size, any shape, any depth profile, so a tight site can be designed to maximise what you have. Integrated spas, raised walls, tanning ledges and water features. The highest initial cost and the highest cost of ownership.

A fiberglass shell newly set into a level lawn
02

Custom fiberglass 2 to 3 weeks

A finished shell, delivered and set. The hole is dug, the pool is set and filled, and as it fills the plumbing is run and the equipment set. A non-porous surface means less chemistry and less electricity through the season, and the lowest cost of construction.

Renovation and repair

Tile replaced, re-plastering, liners replaced, decks resurfaced. Leaks traced, equipment replaced. He will troubleshoot the problem and tell you the best solution to it.

Ten steps, in order.

We earn the reputation on the days nobody photographs.

We discuss every option and every cost before anything is signed. We do not like issuing change orders any more than you like receiving one. The only changes to your project are the ones you ask for.

  1. A pool and lawn seen from above, showing access and drainage across the lot
    01

    Layout and design

The pool, the deck and the equipment location laid out in your yard, so you approve what you are getting where you are getting it.

  2. Stone paving set into lawn beside a compact pool and seating
    02

    Steel reinforcement

Rebar along the bottom, up the sides and around the perimeter. He exceeds industry standards here by using additional rebar, to protect the shell against ground forces.

  3. A finished pool and round spa on a cleared marsh-front lot
    03

    Plumbing and electric

Larger plumbing lines than the standard calls for, which turn the water over faster. A cleaner pool, and a more energy-efficient one.

  4. A finished terrace, dining table and pergola beside a completed pool
    04

    Interior finish

Plaster or pebble, set once the tile, the coping and the deck are done. The colour you choose is what changes the colour of the water.

Feedback.

Their words, not ours.

  • 5.0 from 15 Google reviews Camp Pool Builders
  • 4.7 from 57 Aqua Blue Pools
  • 4.9 from 61 Blue Haven
  • Not one review below five stars, across every year the company has been trading. A small book is the point, and this is what the small book buys.

A gunite pool and raised spa on the edge of open marsh
Great local swimming pool builder. Company builds gunite pools.
Yelp review

A deliberately limited number of projects a year, so the man who quotes the job is still the man on site when it is dug. That is the trade Kevin made when he left the volume shop, and it is the reason this page is short.
